Ouroboros of Engagement
Ouroboros of Engagement
for when the algorithm starts eating its own tail
We first observed the specimen in its natural habitat: the endless feed, where notifications breed notifications in an unbroken chain of digital hunger. The ouroboros — that ancient symbol of cycles and consumption — has found new purpose in the age of engagement metrics. Here, rendered in the detritus of our attention economy: checkmarks pursuing hearts pursuing @ symbols in perpetual motion.
This particular artifact maps the closed loop of contemporary existence, where the very act of complaining about advertisements becomes content, which becomes advertising, which generates complaints. The serpent of engagement devours its own algorithmic tail, sustaining itself on our collective fatigue with the very system that feeds it. A meditation on circularity, printed on soft fabric that won't ping you with push notifications.
